Fundamental characterisation of reclaimed asphalts: The importance of testing homogeneous specimens

2013

This study highlights the importance of defining appropriate specimen manufacturing procedures when assessing the fundamental properties of reclaimed asphalt (RA) mixes for further modelling purposes. Two gyratory compactor procedures were used: the first leading to specimens with a non-uniform air voids distribution and the second tailored to obtain homogeneous specimens. The study was performed by using three stone mastic asphalts incorporating up to 30% of RA but designed to have identical properties. A detailed characterisation of the loose mixes and binders, an X-ray computer tomography micro-structural study of the manufactured specimens and a further mechanical characterisation showe…

Unprecedented layered coordination polymers of dithiolene group 10 metals: Magnetic and electrical properties

2016

One-pot reactions between Ni(ii), Pd(ii) or Pt(ii) salts and 3,6-dichloro-1,2-benzenedithiol (HSC6H2Cl2SH) in KOH medium under argon lead to a series of bis-dithiolene coordination polymers. X-ray analysis shows the presence of a common square planar complex [M(SC6H2Cl2S)2]2- linked to potassium cations forming either a two-dimensional coordination polymer network for {[K2(μ-H2O)2(μ-thf)(thf)2][M(SC6H2Cl2S)2]}n [M = Ni (1) and Pd (2)] or a one-dimensional coordination polymer for {[K2(μ-H2O)2(thf)6][Pt(SC6H2Cl2S)2]}n (3). In 3 the coordination environment of the potassium ions may slightly change leading to the two-dimensional coordination polymer {[K2(μ-H2O)(μ-thf)2][Pt(SC6H2Cl2S)2]}n (4) …

Configuration of Enolates of β-Ketocarboxylic Acid Esters — Carbocation-Carbanion Salts

1996

Deprotonation of (Z)- or (E)-3-hydroxy-2,3-dimesitylpropenoic acid methyl ester (1a) with tetrakis(dimethylamino)-methane (3) led to stable salt (E)-2a, which belongs to a very rare species of salts that consist of a heteroatom-stabilized carbocation and a heteroatom-stabilized carbanion. An analogous guanidinium salt (E)-2b was formed in the reaction of 3-oxo-2,3-diphenylpropanoic acid methyl ester (1b) and 3. The molecular structures of these enolates were studied by NMR spectroscopy and an X-ray analysis of (E)-2a {MC[N(CH3)2]3} and compared with those of the corresponding alkali enolates.

Small hydrocarbon cyclophanes: Synthesis, X-ray analysis and molecular modelling

2002

Small hydrocarbon cyclophanes, such as [2.2.0]m,m,m-cyclophane (20) and [2.2.0]p,m,m-cyclophane (21), are strained analogues of the well-known π-prismand [2.2.2]p,p,p-cyclophane (1). The synthetic route to these molecules is based on well-established cyclophane methodology which offers a general access to a whole family of hydrocarbon cyclophanes. Single crystal X-ray analysis and molecular modelling showed that the reduction of the ring size from 18-membered (1) to 14-membered (21) or 13-membered (20) has a substantial effect on the size and the shape of the cyclophane’s cavity, thus blocking its ability to complex Ag+ ions. Synthesis, electrochemistry, protonation and X-ray analysis of meso-aryl substituted open-chain pentapyrroles

2019

Five meso-tetraaryl open-chain pentapyrroles were synthesized and characterized as to their electrochemistry and protonation reactions in nonaqueous media. The investigated compounds are represented as (Ar)4PPyH3 where Ar [Formula: see text],[Formula: see text]-F2Ph, [Formula: see text]-BrPh, Ph, [Formula: see text],[Formula: see text],[Formula: see text]-(OMe)3Ph or [Formula: see text]-MePh and were characterized by UV-vis and 1H NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry and electrochemistry. Cyclic voltammetry was used to measure redox potentials, while protonation involving the conversion of (Ar)4PPyH3 to [(Ar)4PPyH5][Formula: see text] was monitored by UV-vis absorption spectroscopy. Equilib…

Special Calixarenes by Directed Syntheses

1997

The synthesis of special calixarenes and calixarene-like macrocyclic compounds via stepwise procedures and fragment condensation is reviewed. Among the compounds available are exo- and endo-calixarenes consisting of different phenolic units, having bridges other than methylene or showing inherent chirality (Cn-symmetry). Macrobi- and -tricyclic molecules such as bridged calixarenes, double calixarenes, bicyclocalixarenes and annelated calixarenes are also described. Single crystal X-ray structures are reported for several compounds. Some properties like conformational barriers, pKa values or the ability to complex metal ions are discussed, showing the potential of these compounds which may …

Zur Struktur der Produkte der Reaktion vonE/Z-1-Benzolsulfonyl-3-(1-pentenyl)-indol mit N-Phenylmaleinimid: Ein erster Beitrag zur Konfigurations- un…

1988

The products2,3 of the reaction ofE/Z-1-benzenesulfonyl-3-(1-pentenyl)-indole (1) and N-phenylmaleimide were analysed by1H-NMR spectroscopy. Exemplarily, the structure elucidation of theendo-cyclo-adduct2 b was achieved by using several NMR techniques (diff. NOE-, INDOR-measurements, decoupling experiments, spectra simulation). The1H-NMR-spectroscopically gained prediction of relative configuration and conformation of2 b was supported on X-ray analysis. The cyclohexene ring of the new cycloadducts adopts in the liquid phase and in the crystal a slightly twisted boat conformation.
